The owner of Shape-Up Fitness and Spa has invited the public to a memorial service for Sarah Leaf, a club nutritionist who was killed Sept. 14 while bicycling on East Coast Highway.
The memorial will take place in the health club’s parking lot at 2101 East Coast Highway, and refreshments will be served afterward inside the club. Many people plan to bring their favorite “Sarah dish” to the memorial, said Robert Burns, Shape-Up’s owner.
The memorial will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Leaf’s father is expected to attend.
Shape-Up also is accepting donations for Leaf’s family; contact the club for information at (949) 760-9335.
Leaf died Sept. 14 while cycling on East Coast Highway and Bayside Drive; read our story here. The next day, a hit-and-run truck driver struck and killed cyclist Catherine Campion on Newport Coast Drive. The day before, another truck with a trailer struck and injured a cyclist on Coast Highway near Dover Drive.
At Shape-Up, a special spin class will be dedicated to Leaf at 8 a.m. Another dedicated class was held earlier in the week and incorporated Leaf’s favorite play list.
