From the Police Log: Arrests, Residential Burglary, Vandalism Reports

Newport Beach police arrested a 32-year-old man on suspicion of violating a penal code charge related to obstruction of a telephone line, according to a report.

The man is accused of taking a phone from a woman who was trying to call 911, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman, in an email.

“The pair were arguing at their home at the time of the incident,” Lowe said. The man was stopped nearby at Seaview and Larkspur avenues while he was leaving the area at 2:41 p.m. His bail was $20,000, a report said.

Police also took a report of a residential burglary in the 500 block of Orchid Avenue at 4 a.m. Monday, according to a report.

“The victim awoke at approximately 3:30 am and discovered that a window screen near her front door had been removed and it appeared someone had entered her residence, leaving through the front door,” Lowe said in an email. “At the time of the report she did not believe that any property was missing from her home.”

Police took a report of vandalism in the 3900 block of East Coast Highway after it was reported to the city’s graffiti hotline at 4:38 p.m. Sunday, a report said. The incident occurred between 6 p.m. Saturday and 4:38 p.m. Sunday with damage estimated at $50. Officers also took another vandalism report in the 500 block of Seaward Road at 11:43 p.m. Sunday, online logs state.

Officers took a report of petty theft from a vehicle in the 400 block of Fernleaf Avenue at 6:58 a.m. Saturday. The theft occurred between 5 p.m. Friday and 5:45 a.m. Saturday with $124 lost and then recovered, the report said. Officers also took a report of a commercial burglary at 221 Newport Center Drive at 3:32 p.m. Saturday. The incident occurred between 1:40 and 1:45 p.m. with a loss of $2,100.

Police arrested a 20-year-old Irvine man at 11:15 p.m. Friday at Jasmine Avenue and Ocean Boulevard on suspicion of being on the beach after-hours; bail was $50.
Police also arrested a 59-year-old Tustin woman at 4:50 p.m. Monday on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated in the 2800 block of Pacific View Drive, according to a report. Her bail was $500. Officers arrested a 48-year-old Costa Mesa woman at 12:54 p.m. Saturday on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated at Heliotrope Avenue and East Coast Highway; bail was $500.

Officers also arrested a 55-year-old Newport Beach man three times in five days on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated, according to reports. The man was arrested at Goldenrod Avenue and East Coast Highway at 3:20 Aug. 30; at 9:35 a.m. Sunday on Newport Center Drive; and at 1 p.m. Monday at 900 West Coast Highway. Bail for each arrest was $500.
