Cycling Safety Committee to Meet Tuesday

The Newport Beach Citizens Bicycle Safety Committee will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Library Friends Room.

The meeting is being held a day later than usual because of the Labor Day holiday.

The meeting will include discussions of sharrows outreach plans, as well as an update from police about bicycle crashes. The group also will discuss communications members have had with bike rental companies as well as a planned meeting on Bike Share programs.

It won't be long and the cyclists will take over PCH. Give them one lane they will take two; two ,three etc.

Bike rental companies? I really don't see CDM as a location for bike rentals. Balboa Island maybe, but don't they rent on the peninsula? I agree with the others, a committee stacked with special interests is not representative of the public mind.

I remember back in the seventies, spandex clad intrepid bikers used to pull into town with their bikes on top of the car. They would unload and bike all the way over to Ocean Blvd. Some would even struggle up the hill to Poinsetta before a rest at Inspiration Point.
