Two men were arrested Friday evening after a fight was reported in the 300 block of Poinsettia Avenue.
“The individuals were involved in a road rage incident on East Coast Highway,” said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman, in an email. “Both drivers pulled over on Poinsettia and began fighting in the middle of the street.”
Police arrived and interviewed a witness and made two arrests, Lowe said.
A 41-year-old Dana Point man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm, with great bodily injury, according to an arrest report. His bail was $20,000.
A 50-year-old Newport Beach man also was arrested nearby on suspicion of battery; his bail was $500, a report said.
The fight was reported at 6:05 p.m., online logs state. The men’s arrests occurred at 6:45 p.m., reports state.
In other police news, police arrested a 21-year-old Santa Ana man at 1:33 a.m. Sunday at Ocean Boulevard and Poppy Avenue on suspicion of narcotics possession; bail was $20,000. Police arrested a 30-year-old Costa Mesa man at 7:55 a.m. Sunday at San Miguel Drive and San Joaquin Hills Road on suspicion of DUI. Bail was $15,000.
A 51-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested at 1:57 p.m. Friday at Anacapa and Newport Center drives on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated; bail was $500. A 21-year-old Diamond Bar woman was arrested on suspicion of commercial burglary at 7:40 p.m. Friday at 857 Newport Center Drive; bail was $20,000.
Police also took a report of petty theft with a $5 loss at 101 Newport Center Drive at noon Sunday. The theft occurred between noon and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a report.
