“It is with a heavy heart that I send this email to our entire Harbor View Family,” Principal Charlene Metoyer wrote. “As you know, I’ve shared my focus for more than a year with my Dad’s declining health. After an anxious summer with him, I made the difficult decision to focus on him full time and retire from education. I always balanced professional and personal goals, and Harbor View has been a great support for me during this time. It is now time for that balance to move from more professional to more personal.”
Former Andersen Elementary School Principal Mary Manos will serve as interim principal, according to the email.
“Also, the District is currently seeking input from the Harbor View School community regarding qualities and attributes you would like to see in your next principal,” the email said. “To begin the process, the District would like to invite all stakeholders to a community forum held in the Harbor View MPR Tuesday, August 21st, at 6:30 pm.”
Metoyer moved from Eastbluff to Harbor View in the 2007-2008 school year. In February 2010, she was named Principal of the Year in the district and the county; read our story here.
“I would like to thank each and every parent for the support you have given me,” she wrote. “Without your kindness and dedication, a principal cannot lead the best professional team to the excellence you have come to expect…I will miss you more than you know…Please continue to ‘Learn a lot and ask really good questions.’”
