Two elevator entrapments were reported in the Fashion Island area this morning after a power outage occurred about 9:30 a.m., fire officials said.

“The incident involved a malfunction in an electrical vault along with a small, localized power outage in the 200 block of Newport Center,” said Jennifer Schulz, a Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman, in an email. “The incident caused two elevator entrapments in the area, in which firefighters assisted in extricating the trapped people.”

The first rescue was in the 200 block of Newport Center Drive, and the other was in the 5000 block of Colony Plaza, Schulz said. No injuries were reported during the incident, she said.

Firefighters also were called to the Cameo Shores neighborhood at 2:10 p.m. today, when a traffic collision caused a car fire at Cameo Shores Road at Orrington Road. One person was assessed and treated at the scene, Schulz said, and then taken to Western Medical Center.

Details of the crash were not immediately available, but one witness reported seeing a driver going fast uphill before losing control and flipping a car.

I am happy no bikes were involved. Did the driver of the race car win the wreck?

Can the Board think of any solutions to speeding cars on Cameo Shores Rd. before someone gets killed. Even the residents are speeding. Speed bumps, asking for intermittent police motorcycle patrols? The temporary speed indicator trailer helped somewhat. Did the racing car belong to a Cameo resident?

The best way to reduce speeding and maintain a decent aesthetic is to narrow streets. This is one of the principles in traffic management, the wider the street the faster a driver will drive. A neighborhood like Cameo Shores should consider installing a landscaped median. Speed bumps would be an awful addition to one of our more attractive communities.

I agree with Steve on a solution. Though on my street, some of my own neighbors go flying by when I'm getting groceries out of my car and it's a little unnerving. The owner of the car lives in Cameo Shores. Happy that no one was seriously injured.

Haha! That annoying car never was tuned right and the driver probably never could draw enough attention to himself.

As far as the car crash goes, wanted Julie to know that there was serious head injuries to the driver, my brother. He is , and will be for a long time, in the head Trauma center with several surgeries to come. Debby.
