From the Police Log: Man Injured on Pirates Cove

A man was injured when he slipped and fell on the rocks at Pirates Cove about 6:24 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Harbor Patrol boat picked up the man and took him to the Harbor Department, where Newport Beach paramedics were waiting to take him to Hoag Hospital, said Jennifer Schulz, a Newport Beach Fire Department spokeswoman, in an email. Lifeguards also assisted, she said. The sheriff’s online log indicated that the man possibly had a head injury.

In other police news, officers responded to a report of suspicious circumstances at 2800 Pacific View Drive at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, according to a report, but no other details were available. Police took a report of a residential burglary in the 700 block of Jasmine Avenue at 9:35 p.m. Friday. The burglary occurred between 9:30 p.m. Thursday and noon Friday with a loss of $4,000, the report said.

A theft was reported at 8:10 a.m. July 25 at 2931 East Coast Highway, according to a report. The incident occurred at 7:35 a.m. July 25, but there was no loss, the report said. Officers arrested a 24-year-old Costa Mesa man at 11:32 p.m. Friday at Newport Coast and Ocean Ridge drives on suspicion of DUI; bail was $2,500.

Oh, oh, we'd better pave over the rocks and grind down any sharp edges before someone else gets hurt. Of course if the plants on the "Point" get much higher you won't even be able to see the harbor anyway. Anybody heard of getting out the pruning shears and cutting some of the bushes down - since this is the premiere ocean overlook in SoCal and there is supposed to be a 42" height limit on bushes.
