Bill Handel, a talk show host on KFI radio, will host a cash mob to help save the Toy Boat Toy Boat Toy Boat shop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to his website.

“Handel will be there LIVE between 11-1pm and we want you to show up to help us support this struggling local business, a local landmark, that has been in the community for almost 50 years!” his website states. “They are in danger of closing so come by and purchase a toy to help keep the store open. Even if you don’t have a child, buy a toy and donate to the local Children’s Hospital. Just come on out and support a local business!”

Co-owner Lori Curtin was interviewed on Handel’s program today and later said she was overwhelmed by the community’s support.

Cash mobs began about a year ago as a way to infuse local businesses with cash; read more here.

The store at 3331 East Coast Highway faces closure this week because of serious financial trouble; read our earlier story here.

Good for Handel! He's a hoot to listen too. I don't know that it will change anything, but we'll be there and maybe buy some leggos. Don't forget to have lunch at Gary's Deli or at the ice cream shop next door!
