Crystal Cove State Park will host a Junior Ranger program and other events in August, according to the park’s calendar.

The weekly Junior Ranger program is aimed at children from 7 to 12 years old, who can earn a badge while learning about nature. The program meets from 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, including Aug. 1, 6, 8, 13 and 15. Meet at the Moro Amphitheater. The program is free, but there is a $15 day-use fee to park in state lots.

The Crystal Cove Alliance will host the “Great Plein Air Art Experience” on Aug. 1, 15 and 29, participants can spend the day painting scenes of the park. The Wednesday programs will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and pre-registration required; click here for information or to register.

Several Open House events also are planned, with historic radio shows, games from the 1920s to 1940s, crafts using Crystal Cove sea glass, science activities, artist demonstrations, scavenger hunts and more. The Open House events will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesdays through August. The Crystal Cove Alliance also will host a Concert in the Commons at 1 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 8 featuring Bill Dempsey performing music from the 1920s to 1950s in the Historic District’s Education Commons.

The park will host a 90-minute interpretive full-moon hike at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1. The moderate two-mile hike will meet at the Moro Amphitheater and will offer views of the rising moon over Moro Ridge. Wear sturdy shoes, dress in layers and bring water, organizers said.

The Crystal Cove Alliance will screen “Herbie Rides Again” at 7:45 Aug. 8 in Cottage #13 in the Historic District.
