The Newport Beach Police Department today welcomed the Stanley Cup trophy, which Los Angeles Kings player Dustin Penner brought when he stopped by for a visit.

“Penner, a local Newport Beach resident, was invited to the Department by Canine Officer Mike Fletcher who is a lifelong Kings fan,” according to a police news release.

In June, the Kings won the team’s first National Hockey League championship.

“The Stanley Cup championship team is allotted 100 days during off-season to pass around the Cup including the team’s parade, days with sponsors and a day or so with each player and member of the team’s staff,” the police statement said. “Penner was kind enough to share his time with the Cup with Newport Beach Police Department members and their families who were extremely grateful for the opportunity to meet him and take photographs with the coveted trophy.”
