Corona del Mar business owner Josette Patterson and her husband, Mark Patterson, opened their shop in December 2010, selling custom jewelry that specializes in wedding sets and engagement rings.
They noticed from the start that catering to brides-to-be was big business in Corona del Mar.
“Corona del Mar is like a magnet for brides from all over Southern California,” Patterson said. “There are so many businesses for weddings. Not just jewelers like us, but florists and bridesmaid dress shops, mother-of-the-bride couture…so many. It seemed a shame not to work together, to bundle an event to showcase what we can do for the bride-to-be and her groom.”
Patterson began talking to other business owners, and this week, they announced the first-ever Corona del Mar Bridal Walk, scheduled for Sunday Sept. 23.
“Brides-to-be have long planned shopping trips to Corona del Mar for their wedding needs,” Patterson said. “From finding the perfect wedding dress to finding the perfect invitation, our village has it all. It made sense to work together to present brides a one-day walk to see what we have to offer, and to show off the wedding trends of 2013.”
Brides who want to participate can register online or from noon to 1 p.m. the day of the event, which will begin at the Port Restaurant at 440 Heliotrope Ave. Participants will receive a map of all participating businesses, and they can wander the village to learn more about everything from wedding hairstyle trends to party favors and invitations and more.
The walk ends at Five Crowns Restaurant, where several prizes will be raffled and registered participants can enjoy a bridal reception, according to an event statement.
“We also plan a reception with appetizers and a specialty cocktail, as well as a walking fashion show presented by The White Dress,” said Alison Robbins, sales and marketing director for Five Crowns Restaurant.
Registration will take place from noon to 1 p.m. with the walk running from 1 to 4 p.m. The reception will run from 4 to 5 p.m. Attendees will find street parking as well as spaces available at lots at Sherman Library & Gardens at 2647 East Coast Highway, at Corona del Mar Florist at 3337 East Coast Highway, at Five Crowns Restaurant at 3801 East Coast Highway and at Christopher & Company Salon at 3451 East Coast Highway.
The first 12 brides who preregister on the event website will be eligible to win “Beautiful Bride from Every Angle” by Barbara Wallace , Annie Withers and Lars Wanberg. Wallace is a well-known Corona del Mar-based wedding planner who has helped plan the event, Patterson said.
“We are very excited to launch this walk,” Patterson said. “We hope that we can make this a tradition. Brides are always welcome in Corona del Mar. It’s a perfect fit.”
Event sponsors include Andrea’s Couture, Beach Candy, Bella Bridesmaid, Bliss Home design, Christopher and Company Salon, Corona del Mar Florist, Corona del Mar Today, Five Crowns, Francis Orr Stationery, Jabulani Yoga, Mark Patterson Jewelry, Port Restaurant, Sheldon Gate, Sherman Library and Gardens, The White Dress, Tony Florez Photography and Vin Goat.
