Athletes Alyssa McKenzie, Jessica Means, Joshua Means, Matthew Poska and Ashley Riba from Harbor View Elementary represented the City of Newport Beach when they competed in the Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF) track meet in Laguna Hills on May 6. The students had all qualified by placing in the top 8 in their events at the Newport Beach Track Meet.
Matthew Poska and Joshua Means also represented Newport Beach when they marched in the Parade of Champions that kicked off the event.
All of the athletes from Harbor View placed, winning ribbons or medals, as they competed against athletes from all of Orange County in their events.
Alyssa McKenzie, 1st Place, 100 meter dash, Division 01
Jessica Means, 6th Place, Softball Throw, Division 03
Joshua Means, 2nd Place, 400 meter run, Division 01 and 6th Place, 100 meter dash, Division 01
Matthew Poska, 1st Place, Long Jump, Division 02 and 5th Place, 100 meter dash, Division 02
Ashley Riba, 5th Place, Softball Throw, Division 04
Students who placed in the top 4 in their event at the meet in Laguna Hills qualified to compete at the SCMAF Championships against athletes from throughout Southern California. Alyssa McKenzie, Joshua Means and Matthew Poska all advanced and will represent Orange County at the meet. The SCMAF Championships are scheduled for June in Downey.
