Newport Lightning 9u 3rd Grade Boys Team Captures BCS “So Cal Championships”

In the championship game with 11 seconds remaining and trailing by 1 point, Newport Lightning center Adam Garza inbounded the ball against a full-court defensive press. Garza found Lightning guard Zach Fujii cutting across the court. Fuji drove down the right sideline and passed the ball to teammate Rees Clasen near the free throw line. Met by two defenders, Clasen drove to the hoop for the winning basket, and NLBC defeated PD basketball 33-32 to capture the Big City Sports So Cal Championship in the Boys 3/4th grade division.
The Newport Lightning went undefeated during the tournament with stellar play from Levi Darrow, Troy Olson, Mikey Wein, Tyler Li, Will O’Neill, Matthew Poska, Santiago Forbes and Charlie Levis. The Lightning team is coached by Jeff Fryer.
