From the Police Log: Man Arrested in Dependent Abuse Case; Disorderly Conduct Arrests

UPDATE to clarify charge.

A 62-year-old Newport Beach man was arrested on suspicion of inflicting pain upon a dependent person, according to an arrest report.

The man was charged with one felony count of elder and dependent adult abuse, said Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney’s office. The man is free on $50,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Santa Ana at 8:30 a.m. June 11.

The man was arrested at 2:50 p.m. June 1 at 3550 Fifth Ave., the report said. Police had a warrant for his arrest following a report taken on April 16, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman.

The man, she said in an email, “is accused of neglecting to obtain medical attention for the victim while she was lying in bed unresponsive for two to three days.” The crime occurred in the 3500 block of Fifth Avenue, she said. The crime occurred between April 10 and 16, Emami said, but additional details about the victim and the crime were not immediately available.

In other police news, a 68-year-old Capo Beach woman was arrested on suspicion of DUI at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday at Newport Coast Drive and Pelican Hill Road, a report said. Her bail was $2,500. Police arrested a 46-year-old Costa Mesa man at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of disorderly conduct at Avocado Avenue at East Coast Highway; bail was $500. Officers arrested a 40-year-od Newport Beach woman at East Coast Highway and Larkspur Avenue at 3:48 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of DUI; bail was $2,500. A 56-year-old Mission Viejo man was arrested at East Coast Highway and Avocado Avenue at 5:43 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated; bail was $500. A 26-year-old Long Beach man was arrested at 6:35 p.m. Sunday at East Coast Highway and Goldenrod Avenue on suspicion of DUI; bail was $10,000. A 23-year-old Foothill Ranch man was arrested at 9:10 p.m. Sunday at 2441 East Coast Highway on suspicion of disorderly conduct while intoxicated; bails as $500. A 33-year-old San Carlos man was arrested at East Coast Highway and Marguerite Avenue at 10:47 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of possession of concentrated marijuana; bail was $20,000. And police arrested a 72-year-old Laguna Hills woman at 8:32 p.m. Saturday at 601 Newport Center Drive on suspicion of burglary; bail was $20,000, according to a report.

Police also took a report of a vehicle burglary in the 1600 block of Bayside Drive at 10:58 a.m. June 3. The incident occurred between 3 and 9 a.m. the same day, with a loss of $120 and damage at $1,000, a report said.
