CdM Today Reader Comment of the Week

Our reader comment of the week this week came from Javier Reyna, who wrote in response to our story about the city closing the New Port Theater cafe for a permit violation after a resident’s complaint.

Javier wrote, “Sorry to start a fight Amy, but I had to say something. Feel free to edit my comments to you liking.

“I live on Heliotrope, and I’d like to know who the (deleted) complained? The Port looks so nice that I am sure I’ll never be able to afford a movie and dinner there, but that said, I’ve waited at least 8 years (since I moved here) for this jewel to reopen, and even though it was not ready, it was a nice gesture to have the pastries open so we could start getting a taste of this grand old theater. Who has the time to complain about this crap? Same people who complained about Starbucks stools. Now I have to wait for my halfcaf-Sugar free nonfat-vanilla late with 2 splenda at kids temperature standing up like a (deleted) jackass. All because someone complained about too many people sitting at starbucks! Guess what genius? It may be surprising, but there is the same amount of people there, except now we are standing while writing our next screenplay.

“If you live in Corona Del Mar and worry about parking at the Port or Starbucks, or Bruegger’s, you need worry more about your heart than about parking. Most of us walk to these places.

“I have a better idea: Let’s get rid of all the parking at Brueggers, Albertsons, Rite Aid, Bandera, Zinc, Rose’s, Coco’s, big Corona beach, take away all PCH parking and turn it everything into a promenade, outdoor eateries with plenty of space to walk and bike. If you can’t walk to it, or bike to it, while living in Corona Del Mar, don’t go. Stay the (deleted) home and order from Amazon, Vons Delivery, or, since you are driving all the time, just go to Costa Mesa, where there is plenty of parking.

“By the way, there are plenty of nice people living on Heliotrope.”

The comment resonated with many readers, some of whom left comments praising Javier. We love comments, especially those that generate more comments. Thank you, everyone!

As I mentioned before when I was obviously ignored, while I can appreciate Mr. Reyna's concerns for public safety, CDM residents have the right to protest when their civil liberties are taken away. His comments may sound good in San Francisco, but not in Orange County. My comments where just as valid as his. If this website was the O.C. Register, things may have gone different, but obviously it isn't. I posted plenty of comments before, just like many white people have, and now a Mexican says something and he is the reader of the week? Why does everything has to be politically correct? Maybe Mr. Reyna doesn't want more parking space in CDM, but I bet he'd like more yards. I also don't appreciate when renters have more voice than home owners. Maybe we should up the rents. What a shame that Corona del Mar Today is slowly turning into a local NY TIMES.

Ignoring the rude mindless drivel of regressed, self-important, greedy, racists, is a good thing. Perhaps it's time for Miss "V" to return to her 'motherland' of origin if she so objects to hearing the diverse opinions of anyone that she somehow imagines that are beneath her.

I can handle Mrs. Von. I'm surprised as he has time to write about CDM while living in Irvine. She probably spends her day looking at all the different shades of beige. Anyway, I know CDM has lots of traffic issues. I'm the most concern with the lack of 4 way stops in the flower streets. Hopefully something can be done before a kid gets hurt. I contacted our Mayor about that and also proposed a concept although it is very expensive. A tunnel from PCH and MacArthur to Crystal cove. After the whole Civic Center expense I am sure the city won't dive into another huge project like an underground tunnel. Although it does not bother me the lane reduction they are planning on doing, it won't matter. The truth is that people from Crystal Cove, Laguna and anyone from that side, just want to get home, and a tunnel would dramatically change things for good. With the much reduce traffic, the city could beautify our PCH section in a way that would increase walking space. Maybe even put kiosks around and a much needed real news stand and get rid of those ugly boxes. Maybe Laguna could pitch in? Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Historical? Yes? PS. I know the city will say no before even looking into it, so I'd settle for a three pedestrians bridges that could match the Goldenrod Bridge so people could walk across PCH and drivers could drive under nice looking flowered bridges.

" She probably spends her day looking at all the different shades of beige." Funny because it's so fitting. ROFLMAO
