The Corona del Mar High School PTA voted at a May meeting to pay $2,176 to hire two security guards to work eight nights during the last weeks of school.
The guards are needed “due to all the vandalism that seems to take place during finals,” said PTA President Anne Gordinier. “Senior prank type stuff.”
Typically, district funds would pay for the extra security and will again next year, said Principal Tim Bryan.
PTA members discussed ways to let students know about the extra patrols.
“It will have a deterrent effect,” Gordinier said.
Finals will take place the weeks of June 11 and 18.
