A man threw a rock or chunk of concrete at a cab driving down MacArthur Boulevard near San Miguel Drive early Saturday, cracking the windshield and causing $500 damage, police said.
The incident occurred at 1:33 a.m. The suspect was about 25 years old, white, average build, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 175 pounds, wearing a black hoodie, sweatshirt and jeans. He was last seen running away from the area, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman.
Police also took a report of a battery that occurred at 10:47 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Fernleaf Avenue, according to a report.
“A male and female were sitting in a vehicle listening to music when an unknown male approached the vehicle,” Lowe said. “The male exited his vehicle and was immediately punched in the face by the unknown suspect, who then fled the area. The victim did not require medical attention.” The suspect was described as a white man who was about 5 feet 6 inches tall.
A vehicle burglary was reported at 9:25 p.m. Friday in the 900 block of Newport Center Drive. A third-row seat worth $3,000 was taken. Police also took a grand theft report at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the 3600 block of Park Green Drive. A large construction trash receptacle valued at $1,600 was taken, Lowe said.
