The Pen on Fire writers’ salon series will host “An Evening with Memoirists Claire Bidwell Smith, James Brown and Dinah Lenneyin” at 7 p.m. May 15, organizer Barbara DeMarco-Barrett announced.

The salon will be held in the SCAPE Gallery at 2859 East Coast Highway. Tickets are $25 and include refreshments.

The memoirist salon will include discussion about the process of writing a memoir, from coming up with the focus of your story to the writing process and onto the publication. DeMarco-Barrett will lead the discussion, which will include a Q&A opportunity. Books will be available for purchase and signing, she said.

Bidwell Smith of Los Angeles is a therapist specializing in grief and author of the “The Rules of Inheritance,” according to the Pen on Fire website. Brown has written several novels as well as the memoirs “The Los Angeles Diaries” and “This River.”

“Brown, a recovering alcoholic, has been a representative for Partnership for a Drug-Free America, and frequently speaks at drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, as well as inmates incarcerated for drug and alcohol related offenses,” the website states. Brown lives in Lake Arrowhead and holds an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from UC-Irvine. Lenney, of Los Angeles, wrote the memoir “Bigger than Life: A Murder” and co-authored “Acting for Young Actors.”

The event is expected to sell out. You may buy tickets online. Participants should arrive promptly to guarantee a seat.
