A thief nabbed $190,000 worth of jewelry from a vehicle, possibly while it was parked in the 500 block of Marguerite Avenue, according to police.

The theft occurred sometime between March 5 and April 12 and was reported Thursday, according to a report made available today. The stolen items included a gold ring with an emerald stone, a gold and diamond necklace and a bracelet with sapphires and diamonds, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman.

The police report listed the crime location on Marguerite Avenue, but Lowe said the vehicle was driven and parked at several locations during the time frame of the crime, so it’s unknown exactly where the theft occurred.

Another grand theft from a vehicle occurred between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Friday at 201 Newport Center Drive when a suspect took an iPad, two camera lenses, a laptop, sunglasses and shoes from an unsecured vehicle. The loss was $5,620, and the incident was reported at 3:39 p.m. Friday.

Police also took a report 10:16 p.m. Thursday of someone removing the catalytic converter from a victim’s vehicle while it was parked in the Trader Joe’s parking lot at 8086 East Coast Highway. The incident, with a loss of $350, occurred between 2 and 10 p.m. Police also took a report of another catalytic converter theft in the 4500 block of Dorchester Road, Lowe said. The theft occurred sometime overnight and was reported at 7 a.m. today, Lowe said.

A vandalism incident occurred between 6:40 a.m. and 1:40 p.m. Monday at Corona del Mar High School, when a suspect poured hot wax on a vehicle while it was parked across the street from the school. The vandalism was repotted 2:23 p.m. Damage was about $350.

Police also took a report of lost property at Ruby’s Diner at 2305 East Coast Highway at 10:04 a.m. Saturday. The loss of $35 occurred between 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, according to a report.

What moron leaves 190,000 worth of jewelry in a parked car for over a month? Sorry if that is inconsiderate but it's really dumb.

+1 to Nick. LOL And what kind of moron would take the trouble to remove a catalytic converter from a car - not to mention the fact that the Trader Joes parking lot is supposed to have a guard, guess he was sleeping. But the bottom line is there is WAY TOO MANY CAR BREAK INS!!! My own car was broken into twice right in front of the house. Everyone needs to be aware and TAKE ACTION when you see something odd - call the police. We are paying for them, let them do their job. But they can't be everywhere, so WE have to help by CALLING when you see something that isn't quite right. The let the police decide if there are shenanigans going on or not. Someone sitting in a car might be waiting for a friend - or they might be waiting for their friend to get done robbing your neighbors house! So CALL and let the cops check it out.
