From the Police Log: BB Gun Shots, Bar Fight

An off-duty CHP officer and a friend were attacked outside Landmark Restaurant early Sunday morning, police records state. The officer, 38, appeared angry and intoxicated when he made the report just after 2 a.m., records show. “The victims said they had no idea why they were attacked, and that the suspect fled the area in a vehicle afterwards,” said Lt. Craig Fox. The victims are from Huntington Beach; the CHP officer works in the South Los Angeles area.

Police also received two reports of shots fired in Newport Coast, one definitely from a BB gun and the other likely from a BB gun, records show. The first case occurred sometime between 5 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. Friday, when a suspect shot a BB gun at a window on Mystique in Newport Coast, causing $700 in damage. The second case occurred about 8 p.m. Saturday in the 23000 block of Newport Coast Drive. A 60-year-old Palm Desert man reported that someone fired at his vehicle, damaging the rear passenger window. Police could not find a BB, but the hole in the car window was the size of a BB or pellet, Fox said. Damage to the car was about $500.

In other local police news, a woman reported that thieves stole four patio chairs and two cans of spray paint in the 500 block of Orchid Avenue sometime between 7:30 and 9 p.m. Friday. The victim had been painting the chairs and left them to dry in the alley, and the suspects took the chairs as well as two cans of spray paint. The loss was $1,210.98.

There were two car burglaries over the weekend in Fashion Island, records show. On Friday between 5:15 and 6:45, a 58-year-old woman reported that suspects opened her unlocked vehicle and stole $1617.80 in newly purchased computer equipment. And between 4:20 and 6:30 p.m., a 26-year-old man reported that someone had taken clothing and an iPod Touch from his car. On Sunday in the 200 block of Orchid Avenue, a burglar entered an unlocked vehicle and rifled through property, records show.
