Savory Spice Shop in the Corona del Mar Plaza shopping center is offering two culinary classes this month, including a St. Patrick’s Day class from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

“The demonstration class will feature Chef Susan Miller who will show attendees how to make traditional favorites of corned beef, tri-color cabbage & fennel salad and some not-so-traditional twists such as kale chips,” according to a statement. Students also will learn how to make mustards. The class costs $20, and reservations are advised.

On March 22, Linda Elbert and Michael Bretall, owners of The Basement Table, will use Savory Spice Shop spices and make a Moroccan dinner featuring spiced hummus and pita chip with Za’atar, spicy glazed carrot salad, charmoula marinade, meatball tagine with couscous and gazelle horn cookies with mint tea. The class costs $40 per person, and reservations are advised. The class will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Savory Spice Shop is located at 928 Avocado Avenue. For more information or to reserve a spot, call (949) 717-7776.

I think wholesome, from-scratch cooking is making a comeback, and since a large number of young people have no idea how to cook anything that does not involve the microwave, cooking classes are a great way to get started. They are so much fun too!
