Newport Beach Police have issued a Nixle alert to Corona del Mar residents following two garage burglaries in two days, as well as two residential burglaries earlier this week.
One incident was reported at 7:29 a.m. today in the 400 block of Mendoza in the Corona Highlands neighborhood, the alert said. The thief entered a locked garage by unknown means and took a cell phone from the unlocked vehicle parked inside, the report said. The second incident occurred at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Narcissus Avenue. The alert said the victim was loading his vehicle and went inside for a moment to get a drink of water. He returned to find someone had entered his open garage and stolen a remote control car, a duffel bag and locker containing remote control parts.
The residential burglaries occurred between 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and 12:50 p.m. Wednesday in the 2800 block of Harbor View Drive, when a suspect entered a home while it was tented for fumigation. “The suspect smashed a glass French door to gain access to the home,” the alert said. The loss is unknown. The other incident occurred between 5:10 p.m. Monday and 6:55 a.m. Tuesday in the 1200 block of Seacrest Drive when the suspect cut a lock of a home under construction. The suspect tried to defeat a dead bolt lock but could not enter the rear garage door, and nothing was stolen.
