Obama to Visit Shore Cliffs in Private Event

posted: February 1st, 2012 05:57 pm | 26Comments

President Barack Obama will visit a private Shore Cliffs home on Feb. 16, according to an invitation to the event.

“Obama for America invites you to join President Barack Obama for a breakfast with supporters like you in Corona del Mar,” the invitation states. Entrance to the breakfast costs $2,500 per person, with a $10,000 photo reception and breakfast option and a $35,800 “greet + breakfast” option.

The event is hosted by Jeff and Nancy Stack of Corona del Mar. Jeff Stack did not reply to emails and a telephone message seeking comment for this story.

The event begins at 7 a.m. with doors closing promptly at 8 a.m. because of security concerns, the invitation states.

Newport Beach police would work with Secret Service officials to coordinate the visit, but they had not been contacted about the event as of today, said Kathy Lowe, a Newport Beach Police Department spokeswoman. It was not known if, or when residents would be notified, about street closures or other security measures, she said.

Great, we need another media circus and traffic jam in CDM. I wonder how much this is going to cost taxpayers. Also, I wasn't aware Democrats were allowed in Orange County. ;-) Y'all can come over meet me and have breakfast at my house for only $1,000 a head. And for that I'll even cook it and do the dishes. LOL.

With those fee's the Democratic Party can afford to reimburse businesses for the loss they will cause. When are We The People going to say ENOUGH! This is outrageous. It cost the taxpayer and the Pres. gets to use all the money he raises for HIS re-election. This is Taxation without representation. Taxpayers should speak up!

Will the Obama campaign reimburse the city for the costs involved in this fund raising affair? Will the secret service evacuate the neighborhood? Will the Obama fans gather and disturb the neighbors?

Another thought on this. There once was a time when the common person could meet the President and maybe shake his hand for free. No wonder there is so much screaming about corruption in government. I wonder how the 1%'er hosts of this private party are going to feel after their wealth is redistributed?

Wow, what is with the bitterness? I didn't see anyone complaining about $50K spent on a statue of Reagan, who, regardless of who he was, had no connections to Newport. Talk about money that could have been used on our schools or twenty other community projects.

Or for that matter when Rick "me no talk so well" Perry showed-up at Rogers Garden with his secret service detail in tow and plenty of NB officers patrolling the area. I missed the outrage at misspent tax dollars on that one too ...

We're not alone! It's wonderful to welcome Democrats to OC. I moved here in 1954 when it was prime John Birch country. What a change - for the better.

Gotta love the Rethuglican selective outrage. Were you this worked up about G.W. Bush's fundraisers in town? No, you weren't. The o.c. is turning blue. Join in or step aside! Or else we'lll get Romney - the best Prez money can buy.

Why would anyone want to support a coward and a liar?? People that support him either don't have the brains to think for themselves or they are in favor of his ideology which is against what America stands for - FREEDOM!! Get the hell out of OC Barry.

Obama is destroying our country. I wonder if those attending this breakfast and spending $35,800 have bothered to pick up a newspaper this morning and read that under Obama's tax plan he'll raise capital gains to cap out at 39%. First off, capital gains isn't just a "tax on the rich" it is a tax on everyone. Wonder what these people will think when the go to sell their oceanfront homes and give 39% of their gains to the government. You couldn't pay me to eat with Obama. He ruins my appetite. Hope it's a good breakfast though. Wonder if they'll have real maple syrup.

I live in Shorecliffs. We are a small community, largely working and paying our taxes. I Am facing extraordinary hurdles to get to work and employ tax paying people, leave house before 6 to avoid arrest (unconstitutional I might add). Now the city has implemented a tow away zone for valet parking and asked me to remove my trash cans so that the Prez doesn''t see NB's community blight. Yeah, thanks for adding insult to injury Mr. prez. You gotta go!

Wow - when Republicans come to OC, I respectfully say nothing. I know that everyone has a right to their opinion. All this right wing Obama bashing. They should be rejoicing in the fact that we have a two party system and that people have choices. The fact that they have so many vile little comments to make simply shows their ignorance and fear. It saddens me to read some of this pathetic small minded commentary. I don't agree with the right wing dialogue, but I certainly don't condemm anyone who comes here to campaign. That's what makes this a great country - differences in opinion and being able to express those differences - hopefully in a respectful dignified manner. Unfortunately I am not seeing that.

This is disguting, 'Bye Republican Newport' I don't think so. Look at the debt this idiot has created, surpassing every POTUS in only 3-plus years. Numbers speak for themselves, the list of foolish bailouts and the FED GOV getting into the investment banking is rediculous. His healthcare initiative is unconstitutional, which will be over-turned in the SC, his current budget will put a $17,000 debt on every living American or close to $70,000 for a family of four. His AG's handling of 'Fast and Furious' is a disaster, calling Americans 'lazy' bowing down and trashing America to every Middle East country is unforgivable and his agenda to turn this country into a socialism is well under way. Just for your edification, when Bush enacted the TARP, spent out of control and expanded the FED GOV I was against that as well, more mad than I am now b/c Bush blind-sided his supporters. No I'm not a racist, as Patrica, Nick and Jim would probably choose to believe, but I am an American, with 39 months spent in Iraq, that is disgusted with the way this country is heading. Take a look at Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal and see how their country is faring with only 30 million people and wake the hell up if you support this POTUS for another 4!
