At 2 p.m., Saturday the boats will host guests for three-hour Battle Sails, featuring “close-quarters naval-style maneuvers similar to those used in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. Guests are invited to help raise a sail, steer the ships (conditions permitting), and verbally taunt adversaries,” according to an event website. Tickets are $60 for adults, $50 for students, seniors, and active military personnel, and $40 for children 12 and younger. The ships also will be open for walk-on tours from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, when crew in period costume will welcome visitors; a $3 donation per person is suggested, and no reservations for walk-on tours are require. Click here to purchase tickets online, or call (800) 200-5239 for more information. The ships are at the Newport Sea Base at 1931 West Coast Highway.

4. Stop by the Corona del Mar Farmers Market for fresh produce for your New Year’s Day breakfast; from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Marguerite Avenue and Bayside Drive.
