I live in CDM and last week two guys came looking for donations for some BS cause and my boyfriend offered $5 just to make them go away. Instead of saying thank you and leaving, they got mad because they wanted more! We said times were tough, which they are for us, and they sniped back that it can't be that tough, look where we live! Years ago an obnoxious girl was talking to my minor son and when I asked her to leave, she bowed up in my face and started yelling at me! They always come at night and are pushy and rude. I'll choose whom to give my money to!

Unfortunately, solicitation is a common reason to keep properties gated. Some people do not respect others’ rights to privacy and when money is involved the temptation to impose on others (or victimize them) is too great. Corona del Mar appears as an easy and plentiful opportunity for some schemers, so it is important stay vigilant and confront the unscrupulous opportunists whenever possible.

The think is these "crews" are often exploited teenagers. My SO's brother got hooked in with one when he was 18. Thought he was going to travel the country. Well he did, selling magazine subscriptions, sleeping in cheap motels with 4 or 5 other kids. They get the kids in "debt" for their room and board. He finally "escaped" in the midwest and his Mother had to pay for him to take the bus home. He is now some years older and wiser and in the Army doing something worthwhile. But these kids are under a lot of pressure to deliver. The are told a "no soliciting" sign doesn't mean anything and to ignore them. It's not really the kids, it's the managers and the companies behind them that should be arrested.
