A large boat that appeared offshore on Friday spent the weekend anchored near Corona del Mar, but law enforcement officials said it left on its own accord Monday morning, well within the 72-hour limits that local law mandates.
Most boats that anchor off the beaches are clearly recreational, but this boat appeared to be a commercial vessel. “It rolled in Friday,” one resident said, “and I thought it was Russian ship coming to attack us.” A sheriff’s department harbor patrol sergeant said his deputies were not involved with the boat and had not made contact asking it to leave.
