East Coast Highway, Beaches Jammed as Mercury Rises

Summer traffic jams have begun clogging East Coast Highway as crowds pour into the beaches. Before noon on Sunday, East Coast Highway was packed solid from MacArthur Boulevard all the way to Poppy Avenue, and both Big and Little Corona beaches were packed with visitors. (We’re glad the tourists haven’t figured out how to navigate the side streets; we whipped through town in five minutes.)

Village streets also were filled with beach-goers, lugging coolers, boogie boards and umbrellas as they headed to the sand to enjoy the perfect weather. The coastal fog burned off early Sunday, and at noon the temperature was already 77 degrees. The forecast is for sunny weather through July 4, with morning fog predicted to burn off and high-70s temps.
