Parking at Bonita Canyon Sports Park

Why is there no parking on Ford across from the Bonita Canyon Sports Park?

I really don’t get it. Families of soccer players are all fighting over limited spaces on the park side, double parking in the bike path, but if anyone dares park in the wide, empty space across the street — look out.

Today, I had a NBPD car do that honking-light-shining thing at me because I was double parked. Which yes, is wrong, but still. It was dark, there were no spaces, and I didn’t really feel like circling and circling.

(I spied on the cop, by the way. He went to the end of the park near where the Reagan statue was, and pulled over. Don’t know what he was doing. If he was looking for thieves, he was a few days too late.)

In any case, it seems to me that the whole problem of the parking crunch in that area could be solved if people could park on both sides of the street.

Anyone know why we can’t?
