The same thing happened on July 30 (six vehicles), September 10 (six vehicles) , and September 22 (four vehicles). Do I need to ride over there on my bicycle and catch these guys myself??

Along with taking precautions, what is wrong with Fashion Island or the medical centers covering all the parking areas with cameras and putting up big signs notifying the crooks. I own a lower income apartment complex inland. We were having problems in the area requiring frequent police action. We put up cameras covering both our complex and the surrounding street areas. There has not been one single call for service since early June. All crime and loitering in the area stopped instantly the day the cameras and signs went up. Yes, it costs money, but the difference has been astounding.

3 big liars! GPS's are all under $300 so their "Newport White LIE" will be enough to get their auto insurance company to BLEACH their Black Claim! Aka liar claim!

What exactly does "punched" mean?? Are they jamming something in the locks or is it a special tool? Landlord & Paralegal, my guess is that these are installed, in the dash navigation systems and therefore don't come out without damage. Would probably cost more than $300 bucks since repairs would need to be made. Not the same as running up Fry's or Best Buy.

I often wonder how much of the property crime reported around here is insurance fraud. Especially the ones about lost $50,000 diamond rings ... desperate underwater homeowners are prone to desperate acts. Not everyone is lucky enough to own cash-flow positive rental properties "inland".

The bandits punch a hole into the skin of the door just below the door handle assembly using a screw driver or other device creating an approximate half inch hole. They then manipulate the door lock through the hole to unlock the door. The alarm system thinks a key has been used to unlock the door, so it does not sound. A picture of a real “punched” hole can be seen here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/handle.asp
