We all know how this will turn out: Overturned! Have the Guida's contact Tod Ridgeway... He knows how to handle those pesky Planning Commissioners.

I hope the Council makes the appropriate moral decision to DENY the appeal, so we won’t have to read stories about the Scrooge who stole Christmas views and the life savings of his neighbors.

Maybe the council is catching on - the monstrosities on the coast line aligned like trophies for egocentric property owners are an eyesore for most of us, distracting from the natural beauty that once made CDM a charming and desirable neighborhood. The origial lot sizes and setbacks were designed to encourage developments of a certain type/size. One-off modifications destroy the intent of and opportunity for elected officials to represent the opinions of the CDM community.

I have to disagree with Kelly. I think the big houses are fine and they increase the property values of the area. BUT there is a difference when you are building YOUR dream home and stealing someone else's dream on the way. I know, our dream view was stolen from us by illegal construction that was allowed by the City to remain. As for these folks, it was suggested that since I'm not a lawyer I shouldn't comment as I do not know the terms of the agreement. But I do know that one point of a private real estate deed restriction is that it be recorded, if they forgot that point they could be in trouble. However the City is not concerned with private agreements or views. Personally I believe a SINGLE home on the two lots, NOT BLOCKING VIEWS would be best for the neighborhood, while retaining the existing views and allowing the new owners a front row seat. It's just kind of sad, people fighting over paradise all the time.

Assuming the council in its decisive vote has all the legal facts straight I can not imagine why the new residents would fight something like this and be among the most despised in their community? Newport Coast is beautiful and a jewel where mansions are normal and planned for. Corona del Mar is a VILLAGE! A two lot two story at Lookout Point would effect all of us residents. City Stand Tall!

Jeff, CDM is not a "village," that is a marketing gimmick dreamed up by some Realtors in the 80' to sell a concept. CDM is just a beach town like other similar ones along the coast. They all have large homes that use the full lot and air space. Blocking private property rights, especially in a "depression" is not right. Nor is blocking views, public or private. Ocean Blvd with large high value homes increases the value of all properties AND it reduces density.
