Construction will close the Central Library from Oct. 17 through Oct. 30, and because the library’s electrical system is involved, the library will no longer have lobby access for customers wanting to pick up requested items.
The work involves building a temporary wall and rearranging shelves and library materials required by the next phase of the library’s expansion project. The expansion will connect the library to the Civic Center, which is under construction along Avocado Ave.; click here to read more.
Wifi access also will be unavailable outside the library during most of the closure period, library officials said in a statement. The Friends Meeting Room will be open for a sold-out event with CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin on Oct. 20, but guests will need to enter through the Bamboo Courtyard. Literacy tutor training on Oct. 27 will take place at the Newport Coast Community Center, but all other Central library events have been cancelled or rescheduled.
The Corona del Mar library branch, as well as the Balboa and Mariners branches, will remain open with their regular hours, and additional resources will be provided to accommodate extra traffic, the statement said. Customers can use the library website to redirect requests and holds to a branch location, or they can call (949) 717-3800 for help.
