Harbor View students, morphing themselves into “Team Kids” capped off a month of charitable work by holding a school carnival on Friday, with all the proceeds going to St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton.
“I’m so proud of our great students,” said Harbor View Principal Charlene Metoyer.
For three weeks, students in grades four through six worked with the entire school to collect canned goods (six bins), clothes and toys that filled a large van for the Southwest Community Center and cans and bottles they recycled to raise money for the Pacific Marine Mammal Institute.
The reward was the carnival over the lunch hour. Students sold tickets before school, and there were booths and snacks.
Other local schools have Team Kids programs, but this was the first year for Harbor View in what parents, students and Metoyer hope will be a long tradition.
Another carnival is being planned for June 20 on the Harbor View campus as a fundraiser for the Parent Faculty Organization.
