1. Roger’s Gardens has planned a California Friendly Gardening trip to the Environmental Nature Center from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. “On this trip we will focus on native plant gardening and home composting, providing helpful tips and tricks for California Friendly gardening, planting with natives and re-using your garden’s green waste,” Roger’s website states. You also can join “My Edible Garden in October,” a lecture scheduled for 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday that will cover planting of cool-season crops and a discussion of growing plants from seed versus starting from transplants. Steve Hampson will lead the interactive discussion, which also will cover the planting of potatoes. Roger’s Gardens is located at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Road.

2. Join the ZeroTrash First Saturday event, scheduled for 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday and help clean up. Meet at El Ranchito for a free red t-shirt, a bag and a trash grabber; click here to read more about ZeroTrash and click here to read about an earlier event. Corona del Mar’s SCAPE Gallery is now sponsoring the cleanup effort.
