A delivery truck hit a tree on Third Avenue near Begonia at 2 p.m. Thursday, tearing off a large limb and splitting the trunk of the 15-foot Carob tree.
Police took a report of a collision involving city property, and crews removed the tree, leaving a large stump.
“The tree will be replaced within the next couple of weeks,” said Mark Harmon, the Newport Beach municipal operations director. The cost of replacing the tree is about $800, he said.
