About 150 neglected tree wells along East Coast Highway have been planted this week as part of a Corona del Mar Business Improvement District project.

The B.I.D. board had discussed using artificial turf in tree wells that were filled with bark, trash and cigarette butts. But instead, the group decided to spend about $100 per tree well to add succulents and native grasses. The group made no changes to tree wells that have been planted and are maintained by business owners.

The plantings took place Thursday and today.
