I don't think we would care if they were watching - in fact, some people want them to watch. However, it seems to me they are not referring to the beach goers in the GQ article from what you quoted. They are looking at the "dressed" up people who look like aliens that surround us on a daily basis.

That's the thing, I guess. I don't think of "those people" when I think of Newport Beach. I think of all the people at the beach!

I believe that award should be accepted not by the citizens of Newport Beach, but by the producers from the Bravo Network. Their casting is at fault here, not our populace.
