A neighbor walking a dog noticed a fire in the back of a home on Harbor Ridge Drive at 10:59 p.m. Tuesday, calling 911 and alerting the residents, fire officials said today.
The two-alarm fire caused no injuries; damage was estimated at $100,000.
The first firefighters who arrived saw smoke and a glow on the rear roof area, according to a fire department statement. They called a second alarm because of the fire threat.
“Firefighters launched an aggressive interior firefighting effort combined with rooftop operations, which together limited further spread and prevented the fire from extending throughout the home and to neighboring homes,” the statement said.
The fire was extinguished in 40 minutes, but firefighters continued overnight with extensive salvage operations.
The cause of the fire apparently was accidental and the result of a nail that punctured insulation of an electrical wire that caused a short circuit. Construction had been done on the home prior to the fire, officials said.
