The China Cove house that partially collapsed last week remains closed to all but emergency workers, propped up and with its future unclear.

Newport Beach police arrested a 28-year-old Laguna Niguel woman early today on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, police reports state. The arrest occurred at East Coast Highway and Goldenrod Avenue at 1:07 a.m. The woman’s bail was set at $2,500.

For 214 Southern California Edison customers, Thursday was a dark day as a scheduled power outage left them in the dark from about 9:30 a.m. until just before 4 p.m. Trucks lined Morning Canyon Road throughout the day as crews worked their way up the street, fixing underground cables.

Three months after demolition began on the Oasis Senior Center, construction has gone vertical with beams now popping out of the site at Marguerite and Fifth avenues. The center’s activities have been moved to facilities throughout Newport Beach during the 18-month project, which will cost more than $12 million.
