Corona del Mar Middle School held its annual Awards Night on Wednesday, with each department honoring students who made an impact during the school year. There also were awards for student government, athletics, grades and other honors.

End of the Year Prestige Awards
“The Norman Stillwell Award recognizes an eigth grade student who is an all-around school contributor. This student must contribute in the classroom and in extracurricular activities. This is a district-wide award and is present at a school board meeting in June. This is the top eighth grade award.”

“The Corona del Mar Faculty Award recognizes one outstanding eigth grade student who has left his/her mark on the faculty. The criteria for consideration are based on both marked reports of achievement and citizenship, as well as teacher recommendations. The winner must have no less than a 3.5 GPA at any time during the student’s years at CdM, must never have a received a citizenship grade less than satisfactory. In a word, this student is memorable.”

“The Brooke Booth Award is named after a woman who served as the CdM Middle School Principal for five years. She was elementary school principal in our district as well as teacher for more than 35 years.
“Character Traits: Uncompromising integrity and courage demonstrated by a willingness to do the right thing despite social pressures or personal risk. Generosity of spirit and willingness for self-sacrifice in devotion to helping others. Does the student honor one of the ‘Six Pillars of Character’ — trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.”

“The Roy O. Andersen Award recognizes one male and one female student for their outstanding academic achievement, citizenship, and school involvement. The student must have no less than a 3.5 GPA and make a significant contribution to CdM in at least one extra curricular program.”

“Most Athletic Award recognizes a male and female athlete in each grade who have played at least two sports and exhibited good sportsmanship and school pride.”

“The Sea King Pride Award (Supervisors Award) recognizes eighth grade students who make major contributions to his/her school.
