1. Take in a free art show at the Newport Beach Central Library on Sunday, where hundreds of paintings, photographs, and sculptures by Orange County artists will be displayed and available for purchase. Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the library at 1000 Avocado Ave.
2. CdM High School students — go to your school dance 7 p.m. Saturday.
3. Take advantage of recession-era happy hours. We like Gen Kai at 3344 E. Coast Highway, where the happy hour specials run from 10 p.m until 2 a.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays:
4. Learn about Japanese Maples at Roger’s Gardens; 9 a.m Saturday.
5. Enjoy the beach: Temperatures should continue in the 70s with lots of sun all weekend. Check here for surf conditions.
