UPDATE

Police made an arrest following a traffic stop at 4:49 a.m. today at Poppy Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. Details were not immediately available.

Police also continued to respond to vehicle crashes in Corona del Mar and the Crystal Cove area this weekend. Officers took a report of a non-injury crash at 5:47 p.m. Saturday at East Coast Highway and Crystal Heights Drive, and officers assisted after a report of a traffic collision with injuries at 3:40 p.m. at East Coast Highway and Reef Point Drive.

Officers kept the peace after a crash at 8:58 a.m. in the 500 block of Iris Avenue, and an injury crash was reported and apparently canceled at 6:48 a.m. Saturday in the 4100 block of Shorecrest Lane. A minute earlier, another crash was reported at East Coast Highway and Poppy Avenue.

Also on Saturday afternoon, police cars and a crime scene van were parked on Marguerite Avenue, but police logs did not have information about a crime, and an email to a police spokesman, seeking information, was not returned.

Police today confirmed that the incident involved a death after a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

And at 1:49 p.m. Saturday, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Harbor Patrol crews were called by a Newport Beach lifeguard at the Corona del Mar Main Beach because a boat was drifting and approaching swim lines, an online blog states.
