If you live in 92625, Steve Kelley has a shirt for you.
“That’s where we live,” said Kelley. “We wanted to celebrate the community feeling.”
Kelley’s new business — zipcodeTshirts.com — features cotton shirts with local ZIP codes, starting with 92625 and Balboa Island’s 92662. The shirts, which come in two color combinations for men and two for women, will be on sale for $25 each at Kelley’s booth at the Christmas Walk. You also can purchase shirts online.
“If you buy online, we can meet at Rose (Cafe) to deliver them — or we’ll deliver anywhere free within the 92625,” he said.
Newport Coast and Newport Beach ZIP shirts are in the works and will be available soon, he said.
Kelley said he and his wife, Jackie Kelley, had seen the shirts in other areas of the country but never locally. So when Kelley’s hunt for a corporate finance job hit a few snags last summer, he decided to start the shirt business.
If the adult shirts sell well, he said, he’d like to launch a line for children and babies.
“When you walk around town, you see so many people pushing strollers,” he said, adding that it was a natural next step.
The women’s shirts come in combinations of pink and brown and sky blue with dark blue; the men’s shirts come in color combinations that reflect the Kelleys’ college biases — USC and UCLA colors.
On each shirt, there is an image of Gaby, the couple’s shelter dog they adopted three years ago and who is the company’s mascot; you can read more about the “Legend of Gaby” here.
The Christmas Walk will take place throughout the village from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call (949) 673-4050.
