Local media who typically compete for the big scoop will join forces tonight to hold local candidates’ “Feet to the Fire” at a debate scheduled for 7 p.m. tonight in Costa Mesa.
The free two-hour event will be held at the Costa Mesa Neighborhood Community Center at 1845 Park Ave. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the event is open to the public. Newport Beach and Costa Mesa candidates are expected to attend, organizers have said.
The Daily Pilot Editor John Canalis, Orange County Register columnists Barbara Venezia and Frank Mickadeit, Newport Beach Independent Editor Roger Bloom and Voice of O.C. Editor Norberto Santana Jr. all plan to participate.
According to The Daily Pilot, nearly all invited candidates promised to attend, including Newport Beach Councilwoman Leslie Daigle and candidates Ed Reno, Rush Hill and Mark Tabbert.
Nancy Gardner, who represents Corona del Mar, and Michael F. Henn will not participate because they are running unopposed. Costa Mesa candidates also will be on hand.
