A commercial burglary was reported at 1401 Avocado Ave. at 9:59 a.m. today, police said.

“Someone stole cash from the cash box at that location,” said Sgt. Steve Burdette of the Newport Beach Police Department. He said there was no forced entry, which suggests it was an inside job. The amount stolen was not immediately available, nor was the business identified.

In other police news, a hit and run of a parked vehicle was reported at 10:36 p.m. Monday at Carnation and Fourth avenues.

Also, Burdette confirmed that a blown transformer caused a power line to fell near Marguerite Avenue and East Coast Highway on Monday afternoon. The downed line sparked a small fire and power outage and forced the evacuation of local businesses for about three hours; read our story here.
