CdM This Weekend: Five Great Things For Your To-Do List

1. Two words: College football. The 2010 season is underway, and we plan to spend Saturday morning watching the Mizzou-Illinois Arch Rivalry game at Sharkeez near the Newport Pier. Where will you watch?

2. Or, you can meet the Newport Beach mayor and give him a piece of your mind (or ask questions) at the Balboa Branch Library at 100 E. Balboa Blvd. Mayor Keith Curry’s regular monthly “office hours” will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

3. Two nature hikes are scheduled this weekend at Crystal Cove State Park. At 9 a.m. Saturday, you can join the geology walk that meets at the Los Trancos lot near the trailer, and at 8 a.m. Sunday, you can join the backcountry hike that meets at the El Moro Visitor Center. Hikes are free, but there is a $15 day-use parking fee.

4. It may feel like summer, but at Roger’s Gardens, it’s full-on Halloween at the “Funn & Gaems” Halloween boutique. Stock up on spiderweb guns, skulls, black cats and more, or just check out the rooms that feature a toy factory gone berserk. (Read our story about the opening here.) 5. It’s the last weekend of summer vacation. Go to the beach.
