1. Two words: College football. The 2010 season is underway, and we plan to spend Saturday morning watching the Mizzou-Illinois Arch Rivalry game at Sharkeez near the Newport Pier. Where will you watch?
2. Or, you can meet the Newport Beach mayor and give him a piece of your mind (or ask questions) at the Balboa Branch Library at 100 E. Balboa Blvd. Mayor Keith Curry’s regular monthly “office hours” will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
3. Two nature hikes are scheduled this weekend at Crystal Cove State Park. At 9 a.m. Saturday, you can join the geology walk that meets at the Los Trancos lot near the trailer, and at 8 a.m. Sunday, you can join the backcountry hike that meets at the El Moro Visitor Center. Hikes are free, but there is a $15 day-use parking fee.
4. It may feel like summer, but at Roger’s Gardens, it’s full-on Halloween at the “Funn & Gaems” Halloween boutique. Stock up on spiderweb guns, skulls, black cats and more, or just check out the rooms that feature a toy factory gone berserk. (Read our story about the opening here.) Roger’s Gardens is located at 2301 San Joaquin Hills Road.
5. It’s the last weekend of summer vacation. Go to the beach.
