Development of properties on coastal bluffs, including homes in Corona del Mar, will be the subject of a public outreach meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight in the Friends Room of the Newport Beach Library at 1000 Avocado Ave.

According to a letter to homeowners, the city’s General Plan was updated in 2006 and contains policies on the development of coastal bluffs. Changes in the city’s Zoning Code are being considered to comply with the General Plan, and the most recent draft of those code changes includes a “bluff overlay” district.

City staff will be available at tonight’s meeting to answer questions and explain the bluff overlay district and what it means to property owners.

The Planning Commission will need to approve changes before the Zoning Code is sent to City Council for approval. The Planning Commission also will discuss these changes at a meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Council Chambers at City Hall at 3300 Newport Boulevard; click here for more information.

The Zoning Code spells out floor area ratio (FAR), height limitations, setbacks, density as well as the size and shape of additions and new dwellings.
