One Response to “How To Make The Last Weeks of School REALLY Unpleasant”
Comments
This rant is on behalf of the Harbor View first grade teacher who had yard duty this morning before school. She’s busy teaching kids right now, so I will be ranting in her place about something that happened this morning on the lower playground.
While children were playing on the school side of the fence, grounds crews were on the other side in Grant Howald Park. They’ve been noisily landscaping and working all week, blowing and sawing and so forth. During solemn Flag Day ceremonies, during the school day. Not pleasant, wish it could wait two weeks, but fine.
Today, however, the schoolteacher watched as workers blew dust and dirt through the fence and onto little children.
The workers were wearing masks, she said. Of course the children being spewed with the debris were not.
Please! Why can’t this kind of noisy work be done outside of school hours? Last week, they blocked traffic for what appeared to be non-emergency street repair and routine tree-trimming. Now this.
But at the very least, careful with those leaf blowers. Seriously. What kind of person blows dust and dirt into the faces of kids, to the extent that a teacher has to go up and yell at them to stop?
