Poo

I recently attended a meeting of the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission, where dog owners from throughout Newport Beach testified about how dogs should have longer hours on the beach. One man testified that dog waste is not a problem because dog owners are a responsible bunch, and so when people can’t or won’t pick up poop, another dog owner will soon clean up for them.

When this man testified this, it stuck in my brain.

And this week, each time I pass the pile of dog poo that is on the path to the beach near my house, I think of his words.

I’m on day four of thinking about it while that dog poo sits there.

I wonder where those dog owners are, the ones who pick up after other people’s pets?

Maybe they all live in West Newport. Certainly, they are nowhere near me.

How many days, do you think, a pile of poo will sit there, making a joke of that man’s words?

And also, I wonder how many of you think I should pick up the poo.
