If your high school student likes volleyball, soccer, basketball or running — here’s some summer camp information for you.
The Corona del Mar Girls 2010 summer volleyball camp and tryouts will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, July 12 to July 22, in the Corona del Mar High School gym. The camp is for all high school girls who want to preparre for their school season, and all the fundamental skills of volleyball will be taught:, from passing and serving to blocking and spiking. Organizers said conditioning is stressed. The camp costs $195.
Team tryouts will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday July 19 and Wednesday July 21 in the gym. If you have questions, email Darryl at cdmvolleyball @ yahoo.com.
For younger basketball players, “Hoops by the Sea 2010″ Girls Basketball Summer Camp will be held for girls entering third through eighth grades. The camps will run Monday June 28 through Thursday July 1, with a 10 a.m. to noon session and a 1 to 3 p.m. session.
An “Elite Camp by the Sea” will be held for more serious players from 9 a.m. to noon Monday July 12 through Wednesday July 14. That camp costs $125 if you register before Tuesday, $135 after Tuesday, or $200 for both sessions.
The fundamentals camp instruction will feature guest speakers, fast-break offense and emphasis on passing, shooting, pivoting, rebounding, footwork, dribbling and more. Boys who are interested in playing soccer at Corona del Mar High School next year can sign up for a summer camp from 9 a.m. to noon July 12 through 15, to be held at Buffalo Hills Park in the Port Streets neighborhood. This camp is open to all incoming seventh, eighth and ninth graders as well as to all returning school soccer players. The camp costs $125; if you have questions email heidineal @ me.com.
And finally, the Summer Running program will be back from 6:30 to 8 a.m. July 5 to Sept. 2.
“The Coach” Bill Sumner and staff will help build a strong base for the cross country and track seasons with runs by the beach, and they are great for all skill levels and for all athletes — not just runners but all athletes.
The program is open for incoming students from eighth through 12th grades. The group will meet at 6:30 a.m on the corner of Narcissus Avenue and Ocean Boulevard, above the beach. The cost for the club is $200.
