NB Recreation Director Honored

The director of Newport Beach Recreation and Senior Services Department has earned a statewide leadership award, city officials have announced.

Laura Detweiler received the Coveted Leadership Award from the California Park & Recreation Society District 10, according to a statement. “The award recognizes the recreation professional who has provided outstanding leadership and made significant contributions to the organization and is the highest honor bestowed by CPRS District 10,” the statement says.

“The Coveted Leadership Award recognizes excellence in parks and recreation management,” Mayor Keith Curry said in the statement. “Laura Detweiler richly deserves this honor and the results of her leadership are seen in our outstanding youth and senior programs and our high quality, public parks.”

CPRS provides career development, networking and resources for park and recreation professionals throughout the state of California; District 10 is comprised of 60 agencies within Orange and Los Angeles counties.
